Utility Grid Monitoring

SMRTGrid’s primary focus is a Utility System that monitors and reports on all fault conditions on Utility Grid distribution lines and poles

Our sensor reports all fault conditions, from the condition of the poles to voltage and amperage in the conductors.  All so you can save $ millions in O&M costs.

A major US utility recently launched our 200-unit pilot program on their distribution grid to find outages and potential future failures. They project an eventual savings of 10-15% on O&M spending and a significant improvement in System Average Interruption Duration Index (
SAIDI) scores.

EASY INSTALLATION

SMRTGrid Line Beacons (tm) arrive ready to mount. Our tests have shown that, after setting up their bucket truck, a line worker can install a SMRTGrid sensor, (which is placed just under the bottom powered conductor -- below the MAD Zone) in an average of 5 minutes. After installation, SMRTGrid sensors power up, register to your network and begin transmitting data to your SCADA or OMS communication systems.

STAY CONNECTED TO YOUR GRID LIKE NEVER BEFORE

SMRTGrid sends you exact GPS coordinates of problems in your grid the instant they occur.

TESTED AGAINST ALL KINDS OF INTERFERENCE

A fragile monitoring system is a failed monitoring system. SMRTGrid is built to resist all types of breakage. Our sensors are:
  • IP 67 rated for ingress protection against the elements
  • Guaranteed to operate reliably between -40F & 140F
  • Equipped to send encrypted data transmissions on Verizon's secure C.A.T. M1 IoT network

GET ZERO DOWNTIME WITH SOLAR POWER AND BATTERY RESERVES

SMRTGrid's solar power and battery reserves mean that monitoring will never go down—even if your lines do. Each sensor will continue to broadcast to your communication hub for 72-90 hours without sun—unlike fault indicators which shut down immediately after losing their power connection.

IMPROVE YOUR NATURAL DISASTER RECOVERY TIMES

Natural disaster recovery is always a mad dash to get grid back up and running. Traditionally, restoring power can even mean bringing in crews from other states and handing out physical power grid maps for your affected service area. SMRTGrid’s system will tell your outage command center and line teams exactly how many poles are down and where—helping you focus your own resources and call in the correct number of natural disaster recovery crews when required.

CURRENT DEVELOPMENT

We're using our experience with pilot programs to improve the SMRTGrid Line Beacon and increase the sophistication of our software. We're also exploring additional pilot programs with several other utilities to continue refining the next generation of our Line Beacons (TM).
